Byland Abbey, a ruined Cistercian abbey located in North Yorkshire, EnglandIt was one of the largest Cistercian abbeys in Britain and played an important role in the development of Gothic architecture in the north of England.
The abbey was founded in the 12th century and was designed to accommodate around 100 monks and 200 lay brothers.
